Mr. Eric B. Schroeder
Distinguished Scientist/Engineer for Combat Control
Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division

Mr. Schroeder serves as the Distinguished Scientist/Engineer (ST) for Combat Control, responsible for advancing the technologies, architectures, and technical vision to ensure the Navy’s combat control ecosystem evolves with the speed, coherence, and trust required to prevail in conflict. He focuses on driving research and development to advance and apply control theory to combat control problems, providing long-term technical vision, architectural coherence, and trusted counsel for senior leaders across the U.S. Navy while helping ensure effective integration with the joint force and international partners. He was appointed to the scientific cadre of senior executives in August 2026.
Prior to his appointment to ST, Mr. Schroeder served as the force-level development director for the Integrated Combat System Program Office (PEO IWS X), where he led a comprehensive portfolio of force-level combat system capabilities. In this role, Schroeder aligned sponsoring organizations and technical performers across the naval enterprise to accelerate delivery of force-level capabilities to the fleet. He spearheaded force-level architecture development efforts and fostered international partnerships to advance joint pursuit of modern, interoperable combat management systems. Previously, Mr. Schroeder also served as the Chief Engineer for the Integrated Combat System, providing technical leadership for hardware, software, and integration activities.
Over his career as a technical leader, Mr. Schroeder has led efforts in research and development, science and technology, and acquisition including Integrated Combat System development, MH-60R integration, at-sea combat system testing for Aegis, asymmetric capabilities development, electric weapon integration, and directed energy weapon integration. Mr. Schroeder led the combat system integration of the Navy’s family of laser weapon systems and served in assignments in the Pentagon, directly supporting the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation). He has successfully orchestrated complex S&T pipelines to deliver combat system research investments to the warfighter.
Mr. Schroeder began his federal civilian service in 2010. Prior to beginning federal civilian service, he served in the Virginia Army National Guard as an infantryman, deploying to Kosovo 2006-2007 under Operation Enduring Freedom.
Mr. Schroeder graduated from Virginia Tech in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in industrial and systems engineering and a minor in business. At the Naval Postgraduate School, he earned a systems engineering certificate in 2016 as well as a Master of Science in systems engineering (directed energy focus) in 2017. He is the recipient of numerous awards recognizing his technical excellence, innovation, and service to the fleet, including the Department of the Navy Civilian Service Achievement Medal.
