Colonel Owen graduated from the Naval Academy in 2003. He started his career in the infantry before transitioning to intelligence in 2010, and later cyberspace warfare in 2017. He is presently serving as the Director of Intelligence for Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command and the Marine Corps Information Command. Colonel Owen deployed twice to Iraq with 1st Battalion, 1st Marines: first as a rifle platoon commander in 2004 and later as a Combined Anti-Armor Team platoon commander in 2006. He also deployed to Afghanistan twice, first as a Force Reconnaissance platoon commander in 2008 and again as a company commander with 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines in 2011.
He had the privilege to command several operational units, including 1st Force Reconnaissance Company, Combat Mission Team 1, Cyberspace Warfare Task Group 1, and 3d Radio Battalion. Colonel Owen holds advanced degrees from the Naval War College, College of Information and Cyberspace, and the National War College. He is the 2012 recipient of the Navy League General John. A. Lejeune Leadership Award and his personal decorations include the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with Valor device, and three awards of the Purple Heart
