Commanding Officer, 8th Comm Battalion
Prior to commissioning, Lieutenant Colonel Henderson worked for Rexnord Industries as the lead Technical Marketing Analyst for the Aerospace Group. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in November of 2007.
2ndLt Henderson reported to 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force where he served in a variety of billets: Assistant Communications Officer, Platoon Commander, Electronic Key Management System Manager, and Information Management Officer from 2008 to 2011. He deployed from September 2009 until September 2010 to Afghanistan with Regimental Combat Team 7 as the S-6 Future Operations Officer and the Communications Integrater/Provider for Camp Dwyer and outlying bases in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.
1stLt Henderson then deployed to the Joint Multinational Readiness Center, Hohenfels, Germany with 3d Bn 7th Marines and MCSCG in support of the Georgian Deployment Program – International Security Assistance Force. He served as the S-6 / Communications and Information Management Trainer- Evaluator for the Republic of Georgia’s 33rd Light Infantry Battalion’s final rehearsal exercise prior to their deployment to Afghanistan.
Capt Henderson transferred to Communications School in May 2011 where he served as the Senior Curriculum Developer / Chief Instructor and Faculty Advisor for the Basic Communications Officer Course (BCOC). During his tenure, he served as the Primary Instructor for: Doctrine, Single Channel Radio, Packet Switching Networks, Network Services, and Cyber Security Fundamentals.
Capt Henderson then attended Expeditionary Warfare School and the Advanced Communications Officer Course from 2014 to 2015. Following his attendance at resident PME, he transferred to 9th Communication Battalion in August 2015 and was assigned as the Company Commander, Company B. Captain Henderson relinquished command of Company B in January 2017 and was assigned as the Asst Operations and Plans Officer for the battalion.
Major Henderson transferred to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in July 2017. He deployed as the Communications Officer in support of the WESTPAC 19.2 deployment. Afterwards, he attended the US Army’s School of Advanced Military Studies for the 2020-2021 academic year before receiving orders to the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory, Combat Development & Integration Command in Quantico, Virgina. At MCWL, he served as the Branch Head, Plans and Assessments, G-3 and focused on Force Design implementation across the service and all-domain kill web design. While here he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and was selected to assume command of 8th Communication Battalion in the summer of 2024.
Lieutenant Colonel Henderson’s personal decorations include: the Meritorious Service Medal (1 gold star in lieu of second award) and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 gold stars in lieu of third award). He received Bachelor of Science degrees in Computational Physics and Economics with a minor in mathematic from Illinois State University (2006), Masters of Engineering in Electromagnetics from ther University of Illinois – Chicago (2013), Masters of Arts in Military Operations from the School of Advanced Military Studies (2021), and a Master of Business Adminstration from the University of Illinois (2024).
He is married to Emily A. Henderson for the past 15 years. They have two young boys: Jack (6 years old) and Jett (5 months old), and two dogs, Great Pyrenees: Roger & Willie.
